President's Corner

Dear members,

This message is a special message to all our members of the Christian faith as they celebrate Christmas with their families and friends. It is also intended for all our members no matter what religious faith they have to wish each and every one and all their family members a Happy and Prosperous New Year in 1999. Christmas is a season to be joyous and happy, to receive and to give. Lest we forget and lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas .. we are celebrating the birth of the Son of God who came to us in the form of a man, born in a manger, and at the end of his life to be sacrificed on the cross for promising to Man that there is eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven. The greatest thing that I remember about Jesus is what he said at the cross before he died. "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do". This can come only from a person who can express complete forgiveness and unconditional love. In Myanmar, among the Burmese we call it Metta - the unconditional love that can conquer all our obstacles and all our enemies. Hatred never ceases by hatred, hatred ceases only by love. This is the eternal law. In this spirit let us renew our resolve to work harder next year for the benefit of all, in humility and sacrifice. We cannot do everything at once. All of us know that. There is one thing we all can do. Do what we can, even if this is a small act of charity or kindness and do it well. Then the angels will rejoice and say "This is indeed a deed well done." To make mistakes is a human failing, to forgive is a divine act. We can all do it if we try.
