"Third
Anniversary Message to members"
Dear
Members and Colleagues,
Today is
the 13 of November 1998. On this day three years ago, a group
of staff members from the UN Secretariat, UNICEF, UNDP,
UNFPA,UNOPS gathered at the apartment of our former President
Dr. Aung Tun Thet to discuss in a cordial and frank manner and
in full community spirit how to establish an Association that
will stand steadfastly for the welfare of all Myanmar UN staff
members. The main aim was to network among ourselves, make
friends and whenever occasion permits, to do something good
for Myanmar and its people.
We have
all tried our very best inspite of all odds and difficulties.
We have stuck together through thick and thin. This was our
teething time. I am reminded of one book called "Taing
Pye Ga Nu Nu Mone Daing Ga Htan". So it was with our
association. In the end hard work, l'esprit de corps (Mi Thar
Su Seik Dat), and a whole lot of patience and compassion have
made a difference.
Right
now, I can report to all our members that we are getting new
members and the name of the Myanmar Club (UNSRC) is well known
not only within the Myanmar community but also among our
colleagues in the UN and UN agencies. Let me just give you a
gift from traditional Myanmar philosophy - "Pyaing lar
yin a shone pay, hne lone ei de sei". By this I mean not
to give in but to have an indomitable spirit and work very
very hard. What I mean to say is to have a Heart big enough
like Mahatma Gandhi and to embrace your competitors with
wisdom and compassion. I wish you all Happiness and Success in
your work and daily lives. Happy Third Anniversary.
