"Activities in 1995"

There were seven major events in 1995.

  • Establishment of the Myanmar Association Inc.

  • Establishment of the Myanmar Club under the United Nations Staff Recreation Council. (UNSRC)

  • Presentation of Myanmar Classical Dances at the United Nations with Ko Win Maung and Ko Chan Tha, sons of Alinga Kyaw Swar Shwe Mann U Tin Maung

  • Participation in the UN Staff Day celebrations by wearing different national costumes. (16 couples represented by members and family members) (15 September 1995)

  • Presentation of Musical Evening in New York featuring Lashio Thein Aung, Ronnie Kong, Kaiza, May Win Maung, and Tint Tint Tun. (1 October 1995, Elks Lodge, Queens)

  • Family Picnic (12 August 1995)

  • Annual Lunch (12 November 1995)

There were nine major events in 1996.

  • Musical Evening featuring Sai Htee Saing, Nwe Yin Win, Poe Darli Thein Tan, Sett Maw and Ronnie Kong. (8 June 1996, La Guardia Community College)

  • Presentation of Thingyan Dance at the Lotus Music and Dance Studios, New York, "An afternoon of Myanmar Music and Dance". (16 June 1996)

  • Co-sponsored the Rakhaine Thingyan, Burmese New Year Festival. (14 July 1996)

  • Myanmar Cultural Festival (26 July 1996, Labouisse Hall, UNICEF House)

  • Organized lecture by Dr. Mehn Tin Mon: "From Inner Peace to World Peace" (29 July 1996)

  • Participation in the Parade of Nations on UN Staff Day, featuring traditional Myanmar dresses. (13 September 1996)

  • Annual Lunch (29 September 1996)

  • Preparation of the Draft Constitution of the Association.
