Myanmar
Association, Inc. was founded in 1995 with staff members of
United Nations and UN agencies for the welfare of members and
fellow Myanmars.
1995 was
a period of organization and planning. An Organization
Committee was formed headed by Dr. Aung Tun Thet to take the
responsibility of establishing the Myanmar Association, Inc.
under the New York City law. At the same time, Myanmar
Association, Inc. also successfully established "Myanmar
Club" under United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNSRC).
It was the first such organization from Myanmar in UN history.
Dr. Aung Tun Thet was the first elected president of Myanmar
Association, Inc. established on November 13 1995.Even
though, only three years in existence, the hard work and
determination of the\ members has make it possible for the
Association to achieve the strength it needs to serve the
welfare of the members and the Myanmar community in New York
Metropolitan area as a whole. There is no question that for
this Association to last many years to come and to grow from
strength to strength, the need for continued support from
members and from other Myanmars to join us for this good cause
is most essential.
